Besides being a Registered Dietitian I am a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) and am a Certified LEAP Therapist (CLT)
How long has nutrition been your passion?
It became a passion of mine after I graduated from Central Michigan when I started training for fitness competitions. I started working with a Registered Dietitian and a personal trainer. My sleep improved, my energy came back, I stopped drinking a pot of coffee a day, learned my cooking skills and so much more! The improvement in how I felt prompted to go back to school for my Master's in Nutrition and become a Registered Dietitian.
What are food sensitivities?
We are learning more every day about the important role food plays in our overall health and well-being. Due to this we are learning that foods (most specifically the proteins or amino acids in the foods) can cause different types of immunological reactions meaning that certain aspects of our immune system are being challenged or compromised causing symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, irritable bowel syndrome, mucus production, migraines/headaches and a myriad of other symptoms.
Why would someone want to test themselves for a food sensitivity?
There are many different food sensitivity tests out there. Which one do you use and why?
I use a Mediator Release Test (MRT) which looks at 170 different foods and chemicals. I then create a nutrition program which includes an elimination of foods for a short period of time until we start our reintroduction schedule.
